In an effort to drive solutions, Morehouse School of Medicine recently hosted the Georgia Reproductive and Maternal Health Justice Summit.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Dr. Natalie Hernandez-Green, the executive director at the Center for Maternal Health Equity at Morehouse School of Medicine, discussed some of the key takeaways from the summit and explained why every birthing person deserves the right to have a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum experience.

Hernandez-Green further explained how cardiovascular conditions, mental health conditions and substance abuse are some of the leading reasons why Black women die after childbirth.

It was also announced yesterday that the Center for Maternal Health Equity would receive a $1 million grant from Kaiser Permanente to support maternal health improvements and address the maternal mortality crisis in Georgia.
