On City Lights’ series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share work and stories in their own voices. In today’s segment, we feature one-woman band and multi-instrumentalist Brandon-Nicole.
Brandon-Nicole pulls from a gigantic medley of influences, sharing with “City Lights” that she likes to mix genres like “jazz, trap, hip hop, even reggae or rock — and use the different instruments from the different styles of music to create something completely different and diverse.”
To say that Brandon-Nicole plays “a few” instruments would be an understatement — according to her, she’s proficient in “piano, drums, flute, clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba” and that’s not even an exhaustive list. On her most recent record, “Smokin,” she wrote and tracked every instrument herself, resulting in a work that is almost 100% self-produced.
