The Schomburg Center is a division of the New York Public Library, located in Harlem. The center is entirely for research in black culture, and that was where artist Derrick Adams explored the life and work of the late designer Patrick Kelly.

The Mississippi-born Kelly took his Southern roots to Paris and infused his brand of fashion with humor and social commentary.

The exhibition “Derrick Adams: Patrick Kelly, The Journey” is on view at SCAD’s Museum of Fashion — SCAD Fash. The show combines Adams’ multimedia work inspired by Kelly, with some of Kelly’s designs and memorabilia.

Adams and SCAD Fash executive director Alexandra Sachs joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes earlier this week.

The exhibit is on view through July 19.
