March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is “We’re Here: Then, Now, Always.”
According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 6 children in the U.S. between the ages of 3 and 17 have been diagnosed with a developmental disability. Data also shows more than 226,000 families in Georgia are caring for a loved one with an intellectual or developmental disability.
Marshall Seal understands all of the layered emotions, decisions, and questions parents and families experience when navigating a developmental disability diagnosis. Seal’s son, Landon, is nine, nonverbal and has level 3 autism spectrum disorder. The father of four boys serves as a Supporting Parent volunteer for Parent to Parent of Georgia.
