School district property tax exemptions for seniors in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County are going into effect on Jan. 1, 2026.

Voters passed three measures on the November general election ballot to reduce the amount of property tax older homeowners owe to local school districts.

For the City of Atlanta, seniors 65 and up will save up to $1,000 off their Atlanta Public Schools property taxes. This is done by subtracting $50,000 off the value of property owned by qualifying seniors when assessed for the purpose of levying taxes.
