Sandy Springs Unveils City Center Master Plan
When Sandy Springs officials set out to create a new downtown, they wanted something that was vibrant and friendly to both families and businesses. 
This week, citizens got their first glimpse of what consultants at Boston-based Goody Clancy came up with.
It’s called the “City Center Master Plan.”
“People love to see other people,” says Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos. ”That’s civic life.”
The plan celebrates civic interaction with a nod to walkable retail, restaurants, a hotel and even 1,500 housing units.
The new triangle will be west of Roswell Road , south of Mt. Vernon Hwy., and north of Hammond Drive.
Galambos declined to say how much the project will cost.
She says the city has put away money for a “down payment,” much like young people save for a new house.
Municipal bonds should cover the balance.
“We’re hoping that we can finance this by our current tax rate without increasing the mileage rate at all,” says Galambos.
An open house for people to learn more is planned for Nov. 13th.
The city council is expected to approve the plan next month, with land acquisition beginning early next year.
