Georgia U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff is leading more than 30 senators demanding unaccompanied children in immigration proceedings will be guaranteed legal representation.
Ossoff and fellow Democrat Mazie Hirono of Hawaii are calling for action after legal back and forth from the Trump Administration after it forced federally funded legal service providers for these children to stop work, but rescinded the order in three days after public outcry.
In a letter to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, the senators emphasized while the stop work order was lifted, it caused chaos and confusion for children who qualify for legal representation under the 2008 Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.
