Alex Waggoner is an Atlanta-based painter specializing in traditional Southern urban landscape painting and architectural imagery. A former resident of Charleston, South Carolina, Waggoner retains a love for the bright pastel colors of the city’s iconic architectural style. She also enjoys exploring unusual surface materials.
“I love focusing on the overlooked spaces in between, so I find myself painting a lot on wood grain or corrugated metal,” said Waggoner.
Waggoner’s work reflects spaces and city geometry from surprising perspectives, with somewhat less-than-literal interpretations of size and light or limiting an image to a curiously specific corner of fencing or tile arrangement. The effect often brings to mind the dreamlike possibilities of everyday spaces we might otherwise miss. Her fascination with architecture and urban landscapes continues to find sustenance in Atlanta’s diverse neighborhoods.
