Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre‘s latest production, “Marley Was Dead, To Begin With,” puts a new spin on the Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol.” “Marley Was Dead, To Begin With,” marks the first time Terminus has created a production specifically for film.

The film features an all-original score created by composer Jacob Ryan Smith. The score features a wide variety of soundscapes and moods, ranging from classic Victorian to dense synth-filled compositions.

Heath Gill, choreographer for the production, says of the adaptation, “It is an exciting challenge to present a new adaptation of such a well-known story celebrating all the things people love about the original yet leaving room for new exploration. The picture Dickens paints is beautifully woven to his time period, but I feel the themes are timeless and lend themselves to the new imaginings of a modern audience.”

Gill and Smith joined “City Lights” Host Lois Reitzes to discuss the film and what the production means for Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre going forward.

“Marley Was Dead, To Begin With” can be streamed through Jan. 22.
