'The Dark Lady' reimagines Shakespeare’s mysterious muse in bold new play at Synchronicity Theatre

A mysterious figure looms in Shakespeare’s sonnets – a muse, a lover and possibly a proto-feminist – referred to only as “the dark lady.”

Scholars believe she was a real person, and a bold new play explores a possible candidate – the poet Emilia Bassano.

The Dark Lady” by Jessica B. Hill will be onstage at Atlanta’s Synchronicity Theatre through June 29. The intimate staging features live musicians and a post-show discussion with the audience.
