The joyous, madcap 1960s fever dream of “Hairspray” is coming to Out Front Theatre in what the company says will be an extravaganza.
The hit musical, which has won 8 Tony Awards, including “Best Musical,” is based on the 1988 comedy film by writer/director John Waters. It follows the story of Tracy Turnblad, a charming plus-size teenager, who embarks on an epic quest to dance on the “Corny Collins Show,” ultimately transforming her community in the process.
]”Hairspray” is on stage at Out Front Theatre Company through Nov. 9. “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with director Justin Kalin and Caty Bergmark, who plays Tracy Turnblad, about the production.
