Tiffany Jewell’s new memoir explores racism against Black and Brown students in schools

New York Times bestselling author Tiffany Jewell can still remember when she became aware of racism. Jewell says she was nine and in the third grade. She says her teacher made a racist comment after she and her classmate tried to correct the teacher when she misspelled the word, [Asia.]

Jewell writes about numerous school experiences in her new book, “Everything I Learned about Racism I Learned in School.”  In the book, the longtime educator explores the inequities Black and Brown students face from preschool through college.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Jewell talked with show host Rose Scott about her school experiences and her approach and research in putting the book together.
