U.S. House Rep. Rich McCormick, who was recently elected to serve Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, says the American people should have more control — and it’s time to de-centralize the federal government and give local government more power.

“The further you push government down to the local level, the better,” said McCormick. “Too many people want to centralize the government. They want to make the central government powerful, and when you’re up there, you become a part of the problem.”

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” McCormick, who is also an emergency room physician and veteran, talked about his political ideology.

During the conversation, the new Republican leader and Morehouse School of Medicine graduate explained why he wants to get rid of the U.S. Department of Education.
