WABE gala raises $1M as organization enters second year without federal funding

An inaugural gala for WABE raised over $1.1 million in March, preparing the public media organization as it enters its second year without federal funding.

Held on March 25, the event sold out, with 550 seats filled, and featured special appearances by David Brancaccio of “Marketplace” and Meghna Chakrabarti of “On Point,” as well as a performance by the Grammy Award-winning folk duo Indigo Girls.

Additional guest speakers included WABE on-air hosts Lisa Rayam of “Morning Edition,” Jim Burress of “All Things Considered,” and Rose Scott of “Closer Look.”
