WABE Launches (Re)Defining History, a Half-Hour Docuseries Examining Atlanta’s Past to Better Understand the Present, With an Exploration of Hank Aaron’s Legacy
ATLANTA – February 5, 2026 – WABE, Atlanta’s home for NPR and PBS, today announced the launch of (Re)Defining History, a half-hour docuseries that uncovers the hidden history of Atlanta and the South, and examines how those stories have shaped the nation. From pivotal historical events to overlooked figures and cultural icons, the series presents history through a hands-on, immersive approach that invites audiences to rethink what they know and redefine how they see the world today.
(Re)Defining History premieres Monday, February 23 at 8:00pm on WABE TV (PBS/Ch.30) and will be available to stream nationwide on wabe.org, PBS Passport, and WABE’s YouTube channel . The series is hosted by journalist Noah Washington and founder/host of the Archive Atlanta podcast, Victoria Lemos.
This season of (Re)Defining History has been made possible through the support of The Rich’s Foundation, in partnership with The Atlanta History Center, UGA Special Collections Library, Brown Media archives and the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library. Upcoming episodes explore Atlanta’s enduring civil rights legacy, tracing the city’s long and complex journey toward equality and integration. New episodes will release every other month beginning with February’s episode.

The premiere episode, explores Hank Aaron’s legacy and his role in breaking racial barriers through baseball; shining a light on the duality of Aaron’s experience both on and off the field as a celebrated sports icon who simultaneously navigated deep-rooted prejudices in a transforming city like Atlanta. Atlanta Braves President and Chief Executive Officer Derek Schiller is featured in the episode, sharing insight into how Aaron’s legacy shaped Atlanta and continues to influence the organization, the city, and future generations of athletes
