WABE’s Week in Review: Atlanta mayoral forums and Underground Atlanta tries again

The race for Atlanta mayor has 14 candidates and has been getting a lot of attention this week at various candidate forums.  They tackled a variety of topics including crime, transportation, affordable housing as well as children and families. A recent poll from WXIA-TV found that more than 30% of Atlanta voters are still undecided.

Film and TV crew strike effects in Georgia…

This week those who work on film and TV crews voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if no agreement can be reached on better work hours and other demands.  A strike could bring Georgia’s flourishing film industry to a standstill.

Underground Atlanta tries again…

Underground Atlanta has gone through many transformations since the early buildings comprising the area appeared during the post-Civil War Reconstruction era. After recent years of neglect, Underground Atlanta is transforming yet again, with art at the top of the priority list. Underground Atlanta’s creative director Kris Pilcher joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about the new influx of art and entrepreneurship overtaking the renewed historic landmark.

Wellstar-United contract ends…

Finally, tens of thousands of UnitedHealthcare members will now face higher out-of-pocket fees if they go to Wellstar Health System hospitals and doctors. The contract between the two organizations ended Sunday without a new agreement. The nonprofit Wellstar dominates medical care in Cobb County and the suburbs northwest of Atlanta.
