WABE Wins Four 2024 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards
WABE News and WABE Studios recognized for excellence in Continuing Coverage, Feature Reporting, News Series and Podcasting
ATLANTA (May 31, 2024) – WABE, Atlanta’s NPR and PBS affiliate, today announced its won four prestigious 2024 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for outstanding journalism. The awards, among the most respected in news, honor WABE’s exceptional reporting and storytelling across multiple categories, including:
- Continuing Coverage: “Georgia v. Trump, et al.” —WABE’s comprehensive coverage of the Fulton County special grand jury investigation into efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results.
- Feature Reporting: “Mining Debate Brings Personal Ties to the Okefenokee Swamp into Focus“—A compelling look at the human stories connected to the fight over mining plans near the Okefenokee Swamp, produced in partnership with Grist.
- News Series: “Fulton’s Property Tax Collection Ensnares Black Families’ Homes and Wealth”—An investigative series exposing how Fulton County’s aggressive property tax collection practices disproportionately impacted Black homeowners.
- Podcast: Buried Truths, Season 4— The latest season of the acclaimed podcast re-examining racially-motivated murders from the Civil Rights era, produced with the Emory Civil Rights Cold Cases Project.
The Regional Murrow awards are presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) to recognize outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism at a regional level. WABE’s winning entries now advance to the national Murrow awards competition.
