Lawmakers, faith and community leaders aimed to set a courteous tone on the first day of the 2026 Georgia General Assembly.

WABE politics reporter Rahul Bali joined “All Things Considered” to talk about what’s in store for the rest of the session. He said the organization First Five Freedoms capped their call for civility with a rendition of “God Bless America.”

It was a sentiment echoed by new State Senate Pro Tempore Larry Walker, the second most powerful position after Lt. Governor, who acts as president of Senate.
