Maria Isabel Moraes Lanzelotti grew up in Brazil, navigating the theater scene amid political shifts. With her passion for theater, it led her to the belief that art is political.
“I have dyslexia and it was one of the ways that my family was able to help me through it,” said Moraes Lanzelotti. “So, I’ve been doing theater since I was very little, and then, in 2016, the politics in Brazil was really intense with the coup of the Brazilian president. She was the first Brazilian woman president and there was a coup, and that’s when I started learning more about politics, and my dad was always very political and taught us, me and my sister a lot about politics.”
Fast forward to now, Moraes Lanzelotti is a 2026 graduating senior who majored in theater and politics at Oglethorpe University. She’s also an honor student and a recipient of the James Edward Oglethorpe Scholarship.
