Busy Fourth of July travel expected in Georgia

Georgia is expected to see a record-breaking amount of travelers, with AAA predicting nearly 2.3 million Georgians using flights, vehicles or alternative transportation methods during the holiday season.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport announced last week that it is expected to welcome more than 4 million passengers from June 26 to July 7.

Hartsfield officials urge travelers to arrive at least two and a half hours before their scheduled departure times for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights.

Passengers are also encouraged to visit ATL.com, the airport’s official website, for updates regarding parking options, security wait times and concessionaire options.

On the roadways, AAA reports that roughly 2 million Georgians will travel by vehicle between June 28 and July 6, a 2.9% increase from 2024.

According to INRIX, the heaviest road congestion is expected on Wednesday, July 2, and Sunday, July 6.

The company reports that the best time for driving is before noon on July 2 to 4 and before 11 a.m. on July 5 to 6. The busiest road travel times are expected to occur during the afternoon to early evening hours.
