Atlanta-born composer Carlos Simon is known for rejuvenating contemporary classical music with daring and conscience-driven works that draw on history, memory, jazz and gospel to bring more of Black American culture into symphony halls.
Simon is composer-in-residence at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Associate Professor of Music at Georgetown University. Recently, Simon was named the inaugural Composer Chair of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
On Feb. 15 and 16, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra welcomes Carlos Simon as curator of a program of music featuring selections from Black spiritual traditions, the European classical canon and Simon’s own repertoire.
