How Fani Willis' removal will affect the Georgia election interference case against Trump

The Georgia Court of Appeals ruled Thursday morning that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her office should be removed from Georgia’s election interference case. The interference case challenges President-elect Donald Trump and his allies for allegedly trying to overturn Georgia’s election results in 2020.

Earlier this year, Willis admitted to having a personal relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade whom she hired for the case. But back in March 2024, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled Willis could remain on the case if Wade resigned.

In a 2-1 judge panel vote, the latest ruling calls for Willis and her office to be removed due to “significant appearance of impropriety.” This all just comes weeks before Trump is slated to take office.
