Giving Kitchen Helps Food Service Workers During COVID-19 Pandemic

The restaurant industry lost billions of dollars in sales and millions of jobs during the first 22 days of March.

The National Restaurant Association estimates that, during the first 22 days of March, the restaurant industry lost an estimated $25 billion in sales and more than 3 million jobs.

As more cities and states issue “shelter-in-place” orders during the COVID-19 pandemic, these numbers are expected to rise.

Here in Atlanta, a local nonprofit is providing some assistance and resources to food service workers in crisis.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Bryan Schroeder, executive director of the Giving Kitchen, shared how his organization has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and his outlook for the future of the food service industry.
