The chief financial officer of one of Atlanta’s longstanding soul food restaurants says despite being closed for nearly six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she never feared the restaurant, known for its made-from-scratch dishes, would close permanently.

Lucy Sims, who has worked for The Beautiful Restaurant for nearly 40 years, says the board of directors of the Cascade restaurant decided to close at the end of March to put the health and safety of staff and customers first.

“Our president and CEO constantly thought about people hurting and people getting sick,” said Sims.

Since the restaurant’s closure, Sims says they’ve lost approximately $550,000 to $700,000 in revenue.

But despite the closure and the loss of revenue, the restaurant’s resiliency and commitment to serving metro Atlanta remained strong.

Sims told host Rose Scott, on Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look” that The Beautiful Restaurant is gearing up to reopen Sept. 15.

But when the restaurant reopens, things will look different for customers and staff.

During the conversation, Sims talked with Scott about the safety measures being put in place to keep everyone safe, menu changes, new ordering options and new operational hours.
