The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority announced Monday that it will debut a new fare collection system in spring 2026, retaining the Breeze name while modernizing fare media and equipment.

The plan will unfold over the next six months, with updates for Breeze cards and tickets, faregates and validators, Breeze vending machines and the mobile app. Fareboxes will also be renovated in later project phases.

MARTA says that the new equipment will provide new, contactless fare payment equipment. The new payment feature will give customers the option to tap their bank card, smartphone or mobile wallet to pay for their ride. Fare remains $2.50 for a one-way trip.
