Georgia’s public schools have received a “waiver” from federally required standardized tests.

State officials say most students will still be tested, but the scores will not be used to penalize districts where achievement rates have dropped during the coronavirus pandemic.

In other words, the waiver means schools and school districts won’t be “graded” by a kind-of state report card.

WABE’s education reporter Martha Dalton spoke with “All Things Considered” host Jim Burress about what the waiver means for Georgia students who may be struggling to catch up to typical standards during the pandemic.
