The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Thursday that it is awarding $24.4 million in federal funds to expand the state’s electric vehicle charging network.

The money will support the construction and operation of 26 fast-charging stations in mostly rural parts of the state. The award is part of Round 2 of the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, which was part of a bipartisan infrastructure bill passed by Congress in 2021.

“Our robust infrastructure network has set Georgia apart in attracting business, promoting travel, and providing reliable transportation for all Georgians,” said Gov. Brian Kemp in a Thursday release. “This investment will help further secure our status as a national leader in innovation and infrastructure for years to come.”
