ALPHARETTA, Ga. — After months of preparation, the jail in Alpharetta is back in action.

City officials marked the reopening Dec. 15 with a ribbon-cutting in what had been the Fulton County North Annex Jail. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office withdrew its operation of the facility in September, leaving Alpharetta the opportunity to take back the keys of the detention center it once ran.

Alpharetta ceded operation of the jail to the Sheriff’s Office 20 years ago.
