New book details 'Queen Mother' Audley Moore’s fight for reparations and Black self-determination

While leaders like Malcolm X became symbols of the Black nationalist movement, a new book is celebrating the life and work of a lesser-known icon. Dr. Ashley Farmer tells that story in her new book, “Queen Mother: Black Nationalism, Reparations, and the Untold Story of Audley Moore.”

Farmer is an associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in Black women’s history and radical politics. She says that in a world that often feels like it’s shifting under your feet, “Queen Mother” Audley Moore is the perfect reminder of how to stay the course.

Farmer says Moore “set her compass toward a world that she wanted to see, knowing good and well that she would probably never see, and kept going.”
