As a child, Diamond Spratling loved being outdoors. The Detroit native says she’d play with her friends from sunup to sundown. She credits those moments with sparking her passion and curiosity for the environment.
Fast forward to now, Spratling is a climate activist, a children’s books author, and the founder and executive director of Girl + Environment. Through her work, she raises awareness about what’s harming the environment, plus trains and teaches Black and Brown women to advocate for climate solutions.
Recently, the Trump administration repealed the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2009 Endangerment Finding. It’s a move that Spratling doesn’t support. Since the Obama administration, the regulation served as the legal foundation for federal efforts to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles and power plants under the Clean Air Act. Originally, the regulation concluded that greenhouse gases posed a threat to public health and welfare.
