The “We Care, Child Care” sweepstakes is back in its 12th year and offering a $1,529 contribution to support your child’s future education fund.
Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan is one of the country’s many accounts that offer tax benefits toward education savings and can be opened as soon as a child has a Social Security number. The sweepstakes, managed in partnership with the Department of Early Care and Learning, is open until the end of July and available regardless of whether your child has an existing account.
Bethany Whetzel, treasury program director at Georgia’s Office of the State Treasurer, hopes the sweepstakes will bring attention to the importance of saving.
“ Studies have shown that a child who knows that someone is putting money aside for them to go to some kind of post-secondary opportunity, that they are going to have a better post-secondary outcome,” Whetzel said. “And even if that amount is very little, that belief that someone has in them that they are worth saving money for is such an encouragement.”
Whetzel joined Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look” to detail how parents and grandparents can enter and to share other sweepstakes to follow from the state treasury.
