As Georgia and much of the South see an uptick in COVID-19, there is confusion over who can — and cannot — get this year’s booster shots. And whether the vaccines will become widely available under current federal guidelines.

The latest variant XFG, also known as Stratus, is surging in parts of the Western United States, the Midwest and the South, including Georgia’s neighboring states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Alabama.

Reported viral wastewater activity is lower in Georgia overall, but the state is seeing an uptick. Viral activity is high in Fulton County, as reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
