Works of art regularly go for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on the auction block. Another sort of art auction just took place in Atlanta during which no money changed hands … no real money, anyway.
It’s called The Imaginary Million, and was organized by the art organization WonderRoot.
Like its name suggests, The Imaginary Million played up the veneer of wealth. It took place in a Westside event space draped in white curtains and lit by chandeliers. A DJ played music while a hip-looking crowd milled around the room, everyone taking in the artwork that was propped against every wall, stood up on easels and displayed on tables.
