Atlanta Braves, Live Nation Team Up On New Roxy Theatre

The Atlanta Braves are teaming up with Live Nation to build a concert hall next to SunTrust Park in Cobb County. But it’s named after a historic Atlanta venue: The Roxy Theatre.

The Braves announced Thursday that their planned sports/entertainment complex will include an indoor concert hall that can hold 4,000 people.

The team says the name — The Roxy Theatre – honors “an iconic Atlanta venue.”

But it turns out there were two Roxy theaters in Atlanta.

The one downtown, on Peachtree Street, was demolished in the 1970s to make room for the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel.

The Buckhead Theatre – where Peachtree and Roswell roads meet — was also known as The Roxy, before changing its name back to the Buckhead Theatre in 2010.

The Braves say they expect the Cobb Roxy will host about 40 music and comedy shows every year, mostly on non-game days.

It will be just outside the gates of the ballpark, surrounded by restaurants and a brew pub. On the other side of the plaza, plans call for a hotel and an office tower for Comcast employees.
