Atlanta Public Schools to find new superintendent

Atlanta Public Schools will begin the search for a new superintendent after deciding not to extend the contract of Dr. Lisa Herring.

Atlanta Board of Education

The Board of the Atlanta Public School District announced Friday it will not renew its superintendent’s contract.

Dr. Lisa Herring has been in the position for three years and will serve out the remaining year in her contract during the 2023-2024 school year.

She released a statement saying that serving as superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools was the fulfillment of a dream for her, and she still desires to serve as a leader in Atlanta.

The chair of the Atlanta Board of Education, Eshé Collins, said in a statement the board will continue to work closely with Herring through the transition.
