Bernice King Calls For Waffle House Boycott
In a tweet Thursday, Bernice King joined others in calling for a boycott of Waffle House.

Bernice King is calling for people to boycott Waffle House after recent police altercations at the Atlanta-based restaurant chain.
King tweeted telling people to stay out of Waffle House until the company has a serious discussion on racism, commits better employee training, and makes other serious changes.

Her tweets are the latest in a growing call for people to boycott the restaurant.

Video from the latest incident at a Waffle House in North Carolina showed a white police officer, choking and throwing down a black man in prom attire.
About two weeks ago, a controversial video showed three white police officers arresting 25-year-old Chikesia Clemons, a black woman, in a Waffle House in Saraland, Alabama. Her breasts were exposed during the process.
Waffle House also said it doesn’t believe race played a part in its employees’ decision to call the police in either case. It said they train employees to call law enforcement if they feel in danger.
J’Lyn Furby, with community advocacy group Street Peace America, said this is a consumer right’s issue.
“At the point where you go to make a purchase and a customer service issue is escalated to a police matter, that should be alarming for all consumers nationwide,” Furby said.
The company said a couple of weeks ago details surrounding the Saraland incident were still under investigation but it stood by its employees’ decision to call the police.
Protesters gathered outside of the company’s headquarters last Friday chanting Black Lives Matter and calling for a national boycott.
