The James Beard Foundation announced on Wednesday its finalists for the 2025 Restaurant and Chef Awards, with one Georgia restaurant making the cut out of 12 Peach State semifinalists.

Buckhead restaurant Aria was named a finalist for Outstanding Hospitality. This award is designated to culinary establishments “that fosters a sense of hospitality among its customers and staff that serves as a beacon for the community and demonstrates consistent excellence in food, atmosphere, hospitality and operations,” according to the foundation.

Other nominees include Archipelago in Seattle, Mixtli in San Antonio, Atomix in New York City and Harbor House Inn, located in Elk, California.

The James Beard Awards are one of the culinary industry’s most prestigious honors. The awards aim to acknowledge “exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media and broader food system, as well as a demonstrated commitment to equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive,” according to the organization’s website.

“On behalf of the Awards committee and the Restaurant and Chef Awards and Beverage Awards subcommittees, congratulations to the 2025 honorees and nominees,” said Chef Elizabeth Falkner in a Monday press release “My deepest appreciation also goes to our subcommittee members and judges whose thoughtful consideration makes this important recognition possible.”

The James Beard Award finalist announcement for Aria came on the same day the restaurant announced the retirement of longtime chef Gerry Klaskala.

The James Beard Foundation also announced that the CEO of Cafe Momentum will receive the Humanitarian of the Year award. The Texas-based organization mentors young people who have had involvement with the justice system. An Atlanta location of Cafe Momentum opened in March.

The James Beard Awards ceremony will take place on June 16 in Chicago, Illinois.

There were 12 semifinalists and one finalist for the James Beard Awards from Georgia in 2024. The chefs at Summerhill restaurant Talat Market lost the Best Chef Southeast award that year to Paul Smith at 1010 Bridge in Charleston, West Virginia.
