The Cobb County Police Department recently added a new unit. It’s called the Community Assistance Response Team, also known as the CART Program. Officers on this unit are not sworn-in officers but they are civilians who are specially trained to respond to non-emergency situations where an officer is not needed.
CART officers can handle preliminary investigations and respond to situations like minor accidents, ordinance violations and burglaries.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Cobb County Police Captain Brian Pope, who oversees the unit, talked with show host Rose Scott about how the new unit will help reduce response times, promote safety and build strong community relationships.
