The DeKalb County Commission was considering adding an LGBTQ+ liaison in the police department and requiring hate crime identification training. At the commission’s Jan. 13 meeting, it approved a policy statement affirming the department’s commitment to treating all residents equitably.

Chamblee and Atlanta have both previously appointed LGBTQ+ liaisons to build stronger relationships between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community.

However, the policy statement delays the potential establishment of a liaison in DeKalb County. The police department and county staff will come before the Employee Relations and Public Safety (ERPS) Committee in July to outline how they will implement the policy.
