DeKalb County will officially launch its pet litter registry on Jan. 1, 2026, and all owners of dogs, cats and domestic rabbits will be required to register litters within 21 days of birth.
There was a soft launch of the registry on Dec. 15. Officials hope it will reduce the pet overpopulation, improve public safety, and connect pet owners with resources, such as free vaccines and microchips, according to a Facebook post from the DeKalb County Police Department.
