WASHINGTON (AP) — The best young spellers in the English language are competing at the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week, continuing a more than century-old tradition. The three-day competition begins Tuesday and concludes Thursday night.

The competition includes Peachtree Middle School sixth-grader Sarv Dharavane of Dunwoody, Georgia, who is the top returning finisher from 2025 when he finished third. Even if he falls short this year, he has two years of eligibility left.

Dharavane won his third straight Georgia Spelling Bee in March. He and Evans-based Stallings Middle School seventh grader Sreeya Lakkimsetti will represent Georgia in this week’s national bee.
