Georgia is entering its peak time of year for West Nile Virus. And although it is uncommon, experts say that residents have more control than they might think over the insects that transmit the disease.

DeKalb Public Health keeps tabs each summer when the virus ramps up for the year first by looking for it out in the wild.

In the back corner of the agency’s parking lot, researchers set up a small box on top of a tray of mucky, festering water.
