The Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognized symbols in the world, but some of her history has been covered up.
Renowned author and researcher Dr. Joy DeGruy joins “Closer Look” with an important lesson in history and healing through the statue’s lesser-known association with the abolition of slavery.
DeGruy said the broken chains at the State of Liberty’s feet were meant to be a symbol of the end of slavery.
