TUCKER, Ga. — The Tucker City Council at the end of its June 9 meeting voted 4-3 to rebid a controversial project that would add more pickleball courts to the Tucker Recreation Center.
It was an item that Mayor Frank Auman added to the agenda at the beginning of the June 9 meeting, meaning it wasn’t advertised to the public before June 9. The city council’s first meeting of the month is when the council holds public comments. The public’s first opportunity to weigh in on this decision will be July unless the council invites the public to comment at its next meeting on June 23.
Putting more pickleball courts at the rec center was a project that appeared all but dead last month. City Manager John McHenry announced during the city council meeting on May 12 that the council would not award a contract for new pickleball courts after a resident raised questions about whether the winning bidder had the proper license.
But Auman and other council members have given the project new life as the city heads into municipal election season. Candidates for mayor and city council will likely be asked where they stand on the project. At the June 9 council meeting, Councilmembers Alexis Weaver, Virginia Rece and Amy Trocchi voted against rebidding the project, while Mayor Auman and councilmembers Roger Orlando, Cara Schroeder and Vinh Nguyen voted for it.
