The redevelopment of the former Englewood Manor public housing site is making progress in producing a total of almost 900 new housing units in the area. City officials and partners broke ground on a multi-family housing complex in late September.

The Englewood Multifamily complex is part of the Manor’s redevelopment phase one. The project is a partnership between Atlanta Housing and Sandy Springs’ real estate, The Benoit Group.

“Projects like this take a lot of commitment. We have to keep moving forward, regardless of these unprecedented times, which is where the commitment remains. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so we’ve got to do the best we can today,” said Eddy Benoit, CEO of The Benoit Group.

Initial construction on the $87 million Englewood Manor redevelopment started last year. Officials broke ground on affordable senior housing with about 160 units. The Englewood Multifamily complex will have about 200 units, with half designated as affordable housing.

According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, Atlanta has lost over 232,000 rental units priced $1,500 or less. Invest Atlanta CEO and President Eloisa Klementich said the Englewood project is vital as access to affordable housing is limited.

“A recent study about Atlanta’s five-county area revealed that these counties have grown by 9%. But the number of affordable cost-burdened households outpaced this growth by 15% since 2018. Hence why this project is so important to supporting more affordable housing,” Klementich said.

Officials said the Englewood Multifamily complex will be completed by 2027. The entire redevelopment will add 900 or more units to the local area near Chosewood Park.

“This is really our commitment to affordable housing in Atlanta, making sure that families aren’t burdened by high rents, so that they can invest their hard-earned dollars into opportunities that build brighter futures for their families,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens during the September groundbreaking.
