Experts says Florida’s new immigration law will have impacts on migrant community, businesses, Georgia

More than 800,000 undocumented people reside in Florida. Many have become fearful and started to flee the Sunshine State under its new immigration law.

Florida’s Senate Bill 1718 goes into effect on July 1, making transporting or employing undocumented people illegal. It also requires doctors to ask patients about whether they’re legally in the U.S. As the law takes effect, several migrants have fled Florida and arrived in states like Georgia, where they’re resettling and looking for work.

On Friday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Giselle Carson, a business immigration and compliance attorney in Jacksonville, Florida, and Justin Howell, the executive director of Atlanta’s International Rescue Committee, discuss Florida’s Senate Bill 1718 and how it will impact businesses and migrants in both Florida and Georgia.
