According to recent reviews, “Groove, counterpoint, emotion, and heart” characterize the sound of jazz duo Jason Anick and Jason Yeager on their new album, “Sanctuary,” which is out now on Sunnyside Records.

The collection spotlights violin and piano, backed by a band of contemporary jazz heavies, exploring adventurous original compositions that at times echo Thelonious Monk or Hoagy Carmichael, but most often sound like nothing we’ve heard before.

Anick and Yeager recently joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the world of “Sanctuary.”
