This Saturday will mark two years since the death of environmental activist Manuel Esteban Paez Terán, also known as Tortuguita. They were fatally shot by Georgia State Troopers during a reported “clearing operation” at the site of the soon-to-be Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.
While the Georgia Bureau of Investigations claims troopers fired in self-defense, the family of Paez Terán has filed a lawsuit over alleged civil rights violations.
To discuss their legal action, “Closer Look” host Rose Scott speaks with one of the family attorneys, Jeff Filipovits of Spears and Filipovits, LLC.
Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly reported the name of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.
