Award-winning producer, writer and director Ava DuVernay latest film, “Origin,” just hit theaters. The biographical drama is based on journalist and author Isabel Wilkerson’s New York Times bestselling book “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.”
The film follows Wilkerson’s journey of writing the book that explores race, class and social structures. Wilkerson compares the Black experience in America to the Dalits of India and Jewish people in Nazi Germany.
In partnership with the Black Leadership AIDS Crisis Coalition (BLACC) and the BronzeLens Film Festival, “Closer Look” host Rose Scott recently interviewed DuVernay about the film.
