Clayton County’s recently elected Board of Commissioners Chair, Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry, laid out her plans for the region in her first State of the County address on Wednesday.
Chairwoman Anderson-Henry is the first Black woman to head the administrative body. She served as the District 1 County Commissioner in 2021 before her new role.
In her address at the Georgia International Convention Center, the chairwoman talked about Clayton’s progress since she took office.
“We’ve made significant strides in various areas that contribute to the wellbeing of our residents. Our investments in infrastructure have improved transportation, making it easier for families to navigate our beautiful county,” Anderson-Henry said.
She also gave attendees a peek into some improvements and goals yet to come.
“Our goals for 2025 include further enhancing public safety, promoting economic development, and addressing the needs of our most vulnerable populations,” she said.

One project that was spotlighted was a MARTA Operations and Multipurpose Facility set for a 2026 debut in Forest Park.
“This is one of the things that MARTA promised to build in Clayton County… a bus operational center,” said Former Clayton Board of Commissioners Chair Jeffrey Turner at the 2024 groundbreaking.
Chairwoman Anderson-Henry closed her address reiterating her continued commitment to communication, collaboration and consistency.
“Let us remember that the strength of our county lies in its principles, its people, and us working together… as we move Clayton forward, and let us look at this with optimism and resolve,” she said.
